Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and Sixth District County Councilwoman Cathy Bevins today joined with community leaders from around Bird River to announce that the river would be dredged to allow more access to the waterway by boat.

Using both county and state funds, the boating channel in the river, last dredged in 2002-2003, will be re-dredged at a cost of approximately $4.5 million. The dredging is expected to begin in mid-2019.

The three Republican members of the Baltimore County Council will announce this morning a legislative package in response to the county executive's new policies on policing and illegal immigration.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz signed an executive order last Wednesday, April 5, prohibiting county law enforcement from asking about the immigration status of those they encounter. It also prevents officers from holding detainees past their release dates at the request of federal authorities without a judicial order.

Stick with the East County Times this week for more details and coverage following the announcement, which was scheduled for 10 a.m.
