Does the BCPS Superintendent’s leaving have anything to do with SUPES?
Is there something to that old idiom: “get-out-while-the-getting-s-good?”
The answer to that question is yes and no, depending upon the facts.
One fact is obvious: one of our contributing writers wrote this article, which clearly defined Dr. Dallas Dance’s role in the SUPES Academy scandal. For those who need a refresher, the CEO of the Chicago-based company received a 7-year prison term. Other members are also involved, so more indictments and punishments are probably not too far behind.
Which leads us to the news of the day about Dr. Dallas Dance submitting his resignation out of the blue. One has to wonder why would Dr. Dance resign so suddenly, especially after delivering a rousing State of the Schools speech.
Again, inquiring minds want to know if the SUPES mess may have played a role in Dr. Dance’s sudden departure.
If you read this Sun article, written by one of their best reporters, Liz Bowie, the reason for Dr. Dance’s departure may be as plain as the nose on your face.
Meanwhile, other news sources are saying that Dr. Dance’s resignation also may be the result of an investigation into his close ties to other activities, as this article revealed.
Unfortunately, we may never know the real reason. Transparency is not a strong suit in Baltimore County.
Regardless, my opinion is that Dr. Dance knows what is coming down the pike for him. Which means he was either forced to pull the plug or saw the writing on the wall.
Is there more of this waiting in the wings in Baltimore County? Only time will tell.
For now, we just know that the band is tuning up for the last dance.
