[Baltimore Sun] Carroll Board of Elections accepted a total of 10,265 mail-in ballots this primary
The Carroll County Board of Elections has finished counting mail-in ballots and certified the county’s results for the presidential primary election.
Election officials spent last week counting mail-in ballots to finalize voting totals, finishing the job Friday. According to Erin Perrone, the county’s election director, a total of 10,265 mail-in ballots were accepted and counted, including 5,665 registered Democrats and 4,600 registered Republicans.
“The counting was very smooth,” Perrone said.
Former President Donald Trump remained the clear winner in the Republican primary with a total of 15,159 (78.63%) votes in Carroll, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections. That number included 2,625 mail-in ballots.
President Joe Biden was the winner in the Democratic primary with 4,633 mail-in ballots, bringing his total to 9,237 (82.84%) in Carroll.
Former Gov. Larry Hogan won the Republican primary for the open U.S. Senate seat; he received 12,752 (65.32%) votes in Carroll, including 3,377 mail-in ballots.
Hogan’s rival in November, Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, a Democrat, earned 1,785 mail-in ballots in Carroll, bringing her total to 4,213 (38.72%) votes in the county.
Though Alsobrooks won the Democratic primary overall in the state, she came in second to David Trone in Carroll County. Trone, who is giving up his seat as the 6th District congressional representative, earned 3,188 mail-in ballots, bringing his total to 6,129 (56.33%) in Carroll.
In the Democratic primary race for a District 2 seat in the House of Representatives, John “Johnny O” Olszewski Jr., is the winner in Carroll and in the district. He received 6,735 (72.83%) votes in Carroll, including 3,305 mail-in votes.
Kim Klacik, the Republican candidate for the House of Representatives in District 2, won Carroll with 8,604 (55.40%) votes, including 1,517 mail-in ballots.
In the Democratic primary race for a District 3 seat in Congress, Carroll voters chose Democrat Sarah Elfreth, with a total of 483 (39.33%) votes. In the Republican primary, Robert J. Steinberger received 410 (23.39%) votes.
