Each week, the Howard County Times will pick a Team of the Week and hand out five game balls to the top performers through all sports across the county.

Team of the Week

Wilde Lake football: The Wildecats have started the season with wins over Long Reach and Centennial. Wilde Lake came from behind to defeat the Lightning in Week 1 and dominated the Eagles in Week 2. Through two games, Wilde Lake’s offense has averaged 47 points per game.

Honorable mentions

Glenelg boys soccer: The Gladiators are 4-0 on the young season. They have shined offensively with five goals in each of their last three games.

Reservoir field hockey: The Gators began the season with a pair of wins over Oakland Mills and Marriotts Ridge, edging out the Mustangs in a tight 1-0 battle.

Game Ball No. 1

Isaac Ramsey, Oakland Mills, football, senior

Ramsey has starred in the Scorpions’ two dominant wins over Reservoir and Hammond to begin the season. The quarterback opened the season with two touchdowns, one on the ground and one through the air in Week 1 against the Gators. In Week 2, Ramsey was a human highlight reel, a factor in each of the Scorpions’ six touchdowns. He ran for three scores and also threw for three more.

Game Ball No. 2

McKenna Brown, Howard, volleyball, junior

Brown has proven to be a force on the outside for the seventh-ranked Lions. She began the season with a team-high 10 kills in a sweep of Oakland Mills. The junior built on that performance against No. 2 Reservoir, finishing with a match-high 18 kills. That included a stretch late in the second set with multiple kills and a block, flipping the tide in Howard’s comeback win.
