A 27-year-old man living in Oklahoma has been arrested for allegedly conspiring to conduct a terrorist attack in the U.S. on Election Day, according to the Department of Justice.

The man was identified Tuesday as Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, the DOJ noted in a news release.

Citing a 28-page criminal complaint, the DOJ said Tawhedi planned the attack on behalf of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, which is commonly known as the terrorist organization ISIS.

“This defendant, motivated by ISIS, allegedly conspired to commit a violent attack, on Election Day, here on our homeland,” FBI Director Christopher Wray noted in the release. “I am proud of the men and women of the FBI who uncovered and stopped the plot before anyone was harmed. Terrorism is still the FBI’s number one priority, and we will use every resource to protect the American people.”

As part of the plot, the DOJ said, the FBI learned Tawhedi allegedly took steps to liquidate his family’s assets, resettle members of his family overseas, as well as stockpile AK-47 assault rifles and ammunition, and then commit the attack.

After he was arrested, Tawhedi told investigators he had planned an attack for Nov. 5 that would target large gatherings of people, the release noted.

The FBI searched his phone and found communications between him and someone who he believed was affiliated with ISIS. He was also seen in a video recorded in July, showing him talking to two children about “the rewards a martyr receives in the afterlife.”

The complaint also alleged he viewed and saved ISIS propaganda on his iCloud and Google account, took part in pro-ISIS Telegram groups and contributed to a charity that fronts for and funnels money to ISIS.

“We will continue to combat the ongoing threat that ISIS and its supporters pose to America’s national security, and we will identify, investigate, and prosecute the individuals who seek to terrorize the American people. I am deeply grateful to the public servants of the FBI, National Security Division, and U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Oklahoma for their work to disrupt this attack and for the work they do every day to protect our country,”said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland.
