Detectives in Howard County are investigating an apparent homicide after officers discovered a man dead with gunshot wounds in Columbia early Saturday, police said.

Howard County officers were “making routine checks” in the 8800 block of Centre Park Drive when they found a man with gunshot wounds inside a car parked behind an office building, the police department said in a news release.

Police said the man was in his 20s and from Baltimore, but that they would not release his identity until they notified his relatives.

“The circumstances of the shooting, including when it occurred, are unknown,” the department said.

Police encourage anyone with information to call them at 410-313-STOP or email HCPDCrimeTips@howardcountymd.gov.
