Councilman David Marks’ response to op-ed by challenger Jay Payne
Posted by Councilman David Marks on 24th June 2018

The Baltimore Post will continue to publish op-ed pieces from political candidates until the primary election.

We recently published a piece by Republican challenger Jay Payne accusing the current incumbent, Councilman David Marks, of sending a potentially inflammatory mailer regarding Mr. Payne’s background.

The Baltimore Post received the following response from Councilman David Marks:

In his column for the Baltimore Post, my primary election opponent admits to a criminal record and to being a recent convert from the Democratic Party.
Here are the points he refused to challenge.
First, my opponent has absolutely no community experience.  He cannot point to any single accomplishment or leadership role he has played in any civic organization – because there is none.
Second, my opponent is backed by an out-of-town organization, the Campaign for Liberty, with extreme pro-development views.   Under the tutelage of this extremist organization, my opponent will increase development if he gets elected.  Over the past seven years, I DOWNZONED thousands of acres to protect neighborhoods and preserve green space.
Third, my opponent is unelectable in a general election.
My opponent has spent the past two years attacking me from his computer keyboard.  Now that he is a candidate, he whines about a factual mailing that he complains is “unfair.”   The truth hurts.
