The highly anticipated procurement audit report will be presented during the next scheduled BCPS Board of Education meeting that will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at 6:30 pm.
This particular audit report has been a controversial subject related to the operation under the previous administration of Dr. Dallas Dance. Dr. Dance was convicted of perjury for concealing $147,000 he received from private consulting companies while serving as the BCPS superintendent. Dr. Dance pleaded guilty to the perjury counts and served four months of a six-month sentence.
According to Kathleen Causey, the BCPS board chairwoman, they have been in possession of a draft report but declined to release it publicly until the entire audit is complete. The audit was conducted by an independent firm and will address years of operation of the BCPS between the years of 2012 to 2017.
Since Dr. Dance’s departure, Verletta White has been serving as the school systems interim superintendent. Karen Salmon, who heads the Maryland State Superintendent of schools, declined to support Ms. White’s permanent position as the superintendent of BCPS, due to White’s ethical problems.
