To borrow some lyrics from The Hokey Pokey, “You put your right foot in … and your left foot out … and you shake it all about.”
Given the seriousness of the potential largest tax increase in the last 30 years, does anyone think the above photo taken one of Councilwoman Cathy Bevins’ entourage displays proper conduct, especially considering the councilwoman was AWOL during a crucial vote?
The Baltimore Post is proud of our record of accurate, truthful, and concise reporting. This could not happen without the input of community leaders, taxpayers, and concerned citizens.
Let’s examine this flagrant seemingly unethical conduct by an elected official.
Start with the below message, in which Councilwoman Bevins makes the following complaint to the publisher of the Post and other concerned parties: “… you all constantly stalk my FB page, I’m in hopes you can see there is a life out there…” [SIC]
Now you also notice the three distinct hashtags at the end of the above Facebook posting by Mrs. Bevins. To anyone familiar with this particular story, figuring out the meanings of those particular hashtags would not be very difficult.
We want to be perfectly clear about our coverage of the party-hearty lifestyle of someone who took an oath to represent the citizens of Baltimore County.
First off, The Baltimore Post has more important issues to deal with than constantly monitoring the councilwoman’s Facebook page. If that was our sole focus, the truth about the rather dysfunctional Baltimore County Council would never see the light of day.
It is our policy to refrain from making comments on the numerous political Facebook pages. However, Councilwoman Bevins and other pols have plenty of opportunity to comment on the our articles through our Facebook page.
With that said, we question what is more important for the councilwoman: serving her constituents or serving herself?
Also take notice of the following photo from Mr. Tom Iaccoboni, who just happens to be a major player in the development field.
As the saying goes, “Follow the money.” That point is well illustrated by the below photo, as the Baltimore Sun alluded to in a recent well-written article.
Below is a quote from the Sun’s article dealing with:
Two other Baltimore County Council members used campaign funds to pay for their trips. Cathy Bevins spent $3,708 at the Wynn Hotel in 2016 and 2017. Her Republican colleague, Todd Crandell, reported spending $1,182.61 in May 2017 at the Wynn Encore. The Dundalk councilman reported on his campaign finance report that the money was for “room and board expenses related to attendance at the Maryland Real Estate Convention.”
Nancy Hafford, the Executive director at the Townsend Chamber of Commerce, strongly endorsed the Towson Row development project that cost the taxpayers $43 million. That amounts to almost half of the current budget deficit in Baltimore County.
Again, we refer to such boondoggles as “corporate welfare.”
The Sun said the following about that taxpayer fleecing:
Nancy Hafford, executive director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce, said having an empty site in a prime area has been “very challenging, but we’ve been very optimistic.”
In one of our recent articles on the budget crisis, we thoroughly covered a lot of material and can only hope that those who took an oath to serve their constituents will do the same.
