Baltimore County Executive John Olszewski, Jr. promised his constituents that, if elected, his administration would be honest and transparent.

Despite that claim, The Baltimore Post uncovered another blatant attempt at deceiving the public about the impact of crime in Baltimore County.

In order to set the backdrop on this column, please click the following link to read our previous articles regarding the incident at Tiki Lee’s Bock Bar.

The Post Previous articles on the violence at Tiki Lee’s.

As stated previously, The Baltimore Post needed to file a public information act request to gain more insight into the horrific beating of a Tiki Lee’s patron. The victim in that incident had to be transported to shock trauma, and his family had to set up a GoFundMe page in order to pay his medical bills.

But the disturbance at Tiki Lee’s is just the tip of the iceberg, folks.

The following photograph, taken by the Dundalk Eagle, shows Johnny O walking through an Essex neighborhood after yet another shooting.

According to the most recent crime statistics showing the county’s murder rate, this particular image could be referred to as a “Johnny-come-lately” moment.

But let’s get back to the Tiki Lee incident and our search for the truth.

In order to place this article in proper context, it is important to reveal a copy of the MPIA that the Post filed six months ago.

After reading our MPIA request, you can see that what we asked for and what we received are totally two different things.

Our public information request used the words “tapes,” meaning any communication about the incident that occurred.

What we received from Baltimore County was obviously lacking the specific information we sought.

Under the MPIA law, Baltimore County had 30 days to respond to our request. Not only did Baltimore County Police fail to respond in the required timeframe, it took an outside agency to assist the Post in getting the information, which still didn’t meet the criteria for our request.

We believe is a blatant attempt to cover up what appears to be an out-of-control crime issue in Baltimore County despite Johnny O’s rhetoric.

It takes a lot of gall for a politician to ask for money after his administration suffered a record-setting homicide rate. Yet, here is what the county executive posted to Facebook:

The following quote was taken from a Baltimore Sun article about the record-breaking year of slaughter in Baltimore County.

“Any homicide is completely unacceptable to me and I’m devastated for every single family that lost a loved one to a murder in Baltimore County this past year,” Olszewski said. Olszewski sought to “keep things in context,” saying the county remains “a safe place to live, work and raise a family.”

Remember, folks, Johnny O was apparently too devastated to respond to the widow of a Baltimore County citizen who was killed by illegal.

And that illegal is still on the loose.

If Johnny O would spend more time doing his job instead of traveling with the Baltimore Ravens, things might be different.

As the old idiom states, “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

In closing, we want to note that the Post also asked for the 10th time about the death of a beloved community leader, Georgia Bartrum, who died as a result of a garage burglary gone awry. The answer from the public safety unit of the Police Department was the same as it’s been for the previous nine times: “We will get back to you.”

Transparency? We think not.
