BBRC claims DiCara remarks at recent debate not true
This e-mail was received from the Back River Restoration Committee regarding certain statements made by Mr. Joe DiCara on two specific occasions. Mr. DiCara is the Democratic nominee for the position of county councilman in the 7th District.
The letter refers to two recent remarks made by Mr. DiCara, one of which took place at the Essex Middle River Civic Council debate on October 8th.
This letter was published as written.
The founder and Former President along with the Volunteers and supporters of the Back River Restoration Committee, would like to express our strong objection to County Council candidate Joe DiCara’s misrepresentation of his involvement with our organization.
The BRRC is a non-profit, charitable 501 (c) (3) organization based on volunteer work and a partnership with The Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability as well as The Baltimore County Public Works Department. The extraordinarily dedicated volunteers have worked countless hours and donated unselfishly to revitalize and clean up Back River and prevent trash from entering the Chesapeake Bay.
On two recent occasions, October 7 at CCBC-Dundalk and October 8 at the Wilson Point Fire Department, Mr. DiCara falsely claimed to be a part of our organization and grossly exaggerated the minute amount of time he has spent volunteering on the river. Mr. Dicara stated that, “I am part of the Back River Restoration Committee. I’ve been on the river and pulled lots of trash, Tons. Nobody has to tell me about it.” While Candidate DiCara was indeed seen at our most recent clean up at Cox’s Point on August 16, 2014, it appeared to be more of a photo opportunity as he was present for less than an hour and had his personal photographer by his side. He is also not now nor has he ever been on the Board for the BRRC, and there are no records of his attendance at any such meetings.
The BRRC has no political affiliations and while we appreciate Candidate DiCara’s recognition of the important work being done we feel that he is using our organization for his own political gain. Since the inception of the BRRC in 2007 we have had many volunteers from the surrounding area who have poured their hearts and souls into bettering the Community and we feel Mr. DicCara is doing them a severe disservice by claiming to be a part of their efforts. While we do not endorse any politicians we do appreciate their sincere efforts to further the progress of the BRRC. Other politicians such as Delegate Mike Weir and Councilman John Olszewski, Sr. have been a vital part with officials in Towson and Annapolis. They have also been in the much of the river for hours on end to make a real difference. We have never seen a photographer by their sides or seen their work and dedication used for any political campaign or personal gain of any sort. We truly appreciate our true Volunteers.
