Backlash against Ivanka ban draws a mea-culpa from BB&B
There is an old German proverb: “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.” Loosely translated, that means: “Don’t discard something valuable along with something undesirable.”
Apparently, after the story broke in the NY Post and Fox News about Bed Bath & Beyond clearing its shelves of Ivanka Trump’s products, there was a backlash as The Post referenced regarding the middle class base of shoppers leaving BB&B up in arms.
ABC News reported a retraction of BB&B’s new (and now old) policy. Here is a quote from the article:
Bed Bath & Beyond is shutting down reports that it has followed other retailers in dropping Trump-branded merchandise.
The founder of the #GrabYourWallet movement — which encourages retailers to drop the various Trump-branded product lines — tweeted a screen grab of an email from a Bed Bath & Beyond customer service representative informing a customer, “At this time, we are no longer carrying Trump merchandise.”
The Twittersphere lit up, with Trump foes and supporters sounding off about the alleged decision to drop all things Trump.
BB&B did not cave, nor should it ever have caved, into one particular liberal movement (GrabYourWallet), whose sole purpose was to stop the sale of all Trump related products.
I guess BB&B thought it better to keep the baby and throw out the GYW movement instead.
