There is an old saying: “Money talks and BS walks.” That is particularly true in the world of politics.
Actually, in this particular case, that idiom would be an understatement.
This column will examine one of the most bizarre, and downright crazy, political appointments that our county has seen.
We’re not kidding when we say the whole matter borders on pure insanity.
The Baltimore Post’s phone started ringing off the hook after the Olszewski administration made the following announcement concerning the new Code Enforcement Improvement Work Group. Pay particular attention to the name associated with District 7.
You may remember Mr. Cliff O’Connell from a previous column where we mentioned his political ties ($$$) and some of his extreme views.
We were very curious why Johnny O would choose such a person to head the 7th District CEWG. So we went an email to the County Executive and received the following response:
All members of the workgroup have significant knowledge and experience on issues of code enforcement.
Not satisfied with that answer, The Post decided to press the issue with the following questions:
- What were the criteria for choosing these appointed positions?
- Was there an attempt to reach out to other better-suited candidates?
- What will the citizens of the 7th District think of this particular selection to the code enforcement especially given the background of Mr. O’Connell?
We’ve received no further response from the Olszewski administration.
If you’re wondering why we have concerns over Mr. O’Connell’s appointment, we’re happy to give you some information.
According to witnesses, the following sign was posted on a vacant property by Mr. O’Connell:
In the following Facebook post, Mr. O’Connell admits trespassing to dish out his own brand of justice:
The following record details peace orders filed against Mr. O’Connell for harassment:
Granted, Mr. O’Connell has done his best to get the county’s attention turned toward his neighborhood.
Mrs. Debbie O’Connell was also photographed walking with Johnny O through the same neighborhood.
But The Post wonders how many other neighborhoods have receive the same attention from Johnny O? Has your neighborhood received a visit? Probably not.
And do you want to know why?
We followed the money and found the following:
What politician in his right mind would make such a decision based on the information provided by The Baltimore Post?
As we said at the beginning of the column, “Money talks and BS walks.”
Those who make donations to pols get favors in return. The rest of us just get to pay for all of the schemes, cronyism, and outright waste that the pols create with their good-old-boy politics and backroom deals.
We doubt that Johnny O and his administration will give a proper explanation about Mr. Cliff O’Connell’s appointment to the code enforcement work group. Instead of focusing on a non-answer that will never come, we’ll turn our sights to ensuring the taxpayers know how badly the cesspool that has become Baltimore County politics needs to be drained.
As fellow Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and the rest of the left-wing loons stated, “No one is above the law.”
