This year’s National Night Out highlighted the spirit of the annual event by bringing together not only the community but some of the county’s top political leaders as well.
When it comes to bringing together the community no one does it better than Eastfield/Stanbrook Community Association President Karen Cruz and her husband Rick. Food, cold drinks and music along with plenty of folks gathered to share the spirit of National Night Out made the event a true community happening.
Don’t let anyone fool you when that black SUV pulls up with the tinted windows and out steps the county executive and chief of police—you know you are at the premiere event of the evening, at least for a while. Out of the vehicle came Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz along with Police Chief Jim Johnson and the county executive’s point man for east side constituent services, Bryan Shepard.
This list of VIPs does not stop there as Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Schellenberger also made an appearance and stayed for quite some time mingling with the crowd—and a good sized crowd at that.
A little later, State Senator Norman Stone and Del. John Olzeswski, Jr. also made an appearance, shaking hands as they made the rounds.
While members of the community mingled with their elected officials, others chose to take a crack at their vocal skills as there was a karaoke stand for those brave-hearted vocalists.
There was fire equipment on hand along with a special rescue tool—Spider Man—atop one of the engines. Who needs a ladder when you have the web slinger?
In events such as this I like to let the pictures do the talking and I took plenty, so click away and enjoy the same feeling of community spirit as I had.
