Tiki Lee’s Dock Bar held its grand opening on May 24, 2019 in the Northpoint Cove section of Sparrows Point. The establishment received its name from the owner Dave Cary’s late father who was a fisherman.
One local media group’s title announcing the grand opening said, “…tiki bar brings beach vibes to Sparrows Point.” Despite the media hype over the grand opening of Tiki Lee’s Dock Bar at Sparrows Point, a harsh reality has set in.
Some patrons may have a different concept of the word “vibes” after learning about a violent brawl that required a significant police response. Reading the police account of what occurred may give people second thoughts about patronizing this establishment.
Social media played a crucial role in this breaking story. The Baltimore Post received a Facebook message from someone at the scene of the disturbance. For now, the Post will digress from making that Facebook message public.
As always, the Post verified the information we received. After we contacted Baltimore County Police to inquire about the incident, we received the following statement from BCPD:
On June 16, 2019, at 12:44 am, Baltimore County Police received calls from the area around the Tiki Lee’s Dock Bar in the 4300-block of Shore Road, 21222 for a disturbance. Officers were attempting to respond to the area but had to subvert around traffic due to a large number of cars leaving the area at the same time. Shore Road is the only ingress and egress to the location.
Once the officers arrived, they observed several people fighting and several people lying on the ground injured. There was a large number of people yelling and clearly intoxicated. Due to the large scale disturbance, several back up officers were called into the area to control the situation.
Officers were able to determine that a group of 5 to 8 males started a fight inside the bar. Security removed the group from the bar. As the group left, they walked up Shore Road and continued to assault random people. Police were able to identify three victims who were assaulted on Shore Road. Two of the victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment. No suspects have been identified yet. The investigation is on-going at this time.
Eyewitness accounts describe the injuries sustained as “extensive” and “serious,” as the following photo illustrates.
The following statement was issued on Facebook by a local business owner in support of Tiki Lee’s Dock Bar.
