PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island animal rescue organization has opened its doors to animals from hurricane-hit areas in Virginia and South Carolina. Bracing for Hurricane Florence, the North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington took in more than 30 dogs, including puppies, from Martinsville, Virginia earlier this week. That freed up space for other dogs in low-lying shelters.
