Sam Walker, a longtime resident of Turners Station and one of the most respected members of the Dundalk community, passed away Jan. 10 from natural causes at his home in Dundalk. He was 75.

He was born November 4, 1937, and had been married to his wife, Darlene Walker, for 35 years.

Sam was an inspirational leader in the community and will be missed by many.

One of Sam’s close friends, Mr. Willie D. Marshall, stated that Sam was a leader “and I will deeply miss him.”

Mr. Marshall was kind enough to provide some of Sam’s history in the community.  He was instrumental in starting a program that taught students at the Alliance Center how to use machinery.

Mr. Walker spent approximately 32 years working at the Maryland Dry Dock and Bethlehem Steel plant, along with another 17 years with the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks.

According to the former Police Community Relations Council Director at the North Point Precinct, Jim O’Toole, Mr. Walker served the council for about 25 years and was active in representing senior citizens of the Dundalk Area.

Mr. O’Toole stated the Sam’s “gregarious attitude and big smile will be missed.  He was a good friend of mine.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”

Sam received an award in 2012 from the PCRC Council for Continuous Service to the Community, including his representing the seniors in the Dundalk area.

Sam was also involved in many other community activities and was regularly seen at various community meetings offering his assistance.

Sam was also noted for his meticulous care of and devotion to the county park located in Turners Station.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
