Thai Restaurant will stay in Waverly.
The family-run Thai spot, a dining staple for more than 40 years, has found a new home in the neighborhood, the eatery announced on Instagram.
“It seems we will remain in the wonderful Waverly neighborhood… but the exact location, that’s our secret!” the post says.
Though Thai Restaurant’s owners are so far keeping quiet about the new address, the social media post features pictures of the historic Waverly Hall building, a 19th-century structure at the intersection of Greenmount Avenue and 31st Street that used to host political and social gatherings. The old “Town Hall” has been through many lives since, housing a public school, a post office, a pharmacy, a tavern and a medical practice, among other businesses, throughout the years.
The building was most recently transformed into a mixed-use hub with retail and apartments. Jinji Chocolate, a chocolatier, moved into one of the retail spaces last fall.

Nat Mettawiparee — whose parents, Billy and Soy Mettawiparee, have owned Thai Restaurant since 2000 — said the restaurant would elaborate on its plans in a news conference with Councilwoman Odette Ramos Tuesday at the Waverly Hall building.
Thai Restaurant closed its longtime dining room at 3316 Greenmount Ave. in late December after getting notice from the building’s landlord that the restaurant would have to leave.
The Mettawiparees hoped to move the restaurant to another space in legislative district 43 so they could hang onto Thai Restaurant’s liquor license. Ramos and other community leaders, including the not-for-profit Waverly Main Street, reached out to offer their help in finding a new space, Nat Mettawiparee told the Sun in December.
