[Baltimore Sun] Hello? Larry Hogan isn’t the sole GOP candidate in Senate race. | READER COMMENTARY

I am very disappointed with The Baltimore Sun’s coverage of the U.S. Senate race in Maryland, particularly the lack of fair coverage for the Republican primary candidates. Larry Hogan is not the only Republican in the race, nor is he very well thought of by a vast number of Republicans throughout Maryland. His departure from the Republican Party to the “No Labels” movement to explore a run for president of the United States, coupled with his return to the GOP when that possibility evaporated, has alienated many Republicans, as did his handling of the COVID-19 situation and his continual bashing of Republican policies (“Despite Larry Hogan’s popularity, he’s no shoo-in for U.S. Senate,” Feb. 12).
Many in the Republican Party consider him to be a “RINO” (Republican in Name Only). He has publicly stated that he has, “no burning desire to be a senator.” Why would any self-respecting Republican voter cast a ballot for someone who doesn’t want the position? Additionally, his litany of attacks on the presumptive Republican nominee for president will signal doom for Marylanders if former President Donald Trump returns to the White House. Does anyone really think that a newly elected President Trump will include any benefits for Maryland in any of his budgets if our former governor is representing Maryland in the Senate?
Hogan faces a formidable challenge in the GOP primary on his record and can be defeated. I, and I am certain the other Republican candidates who are canvassing the state of Maryland, would greatly appreciate it if The Sun would stop reporting on our former governor as if he has already won the primary. He hasn’t, and God willing for Maryland, he won’t.
