A Harford County man arrested Friday for allegedly setting a June 20 fire in Aberdeen also may be suspected of involvement in several other fires dating back to May, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.

.

After a series of fires on June 20 involving woods, trees and train tracks in the area of 200 S. Post Road in Aberdeen, the state fire marshal began investigating and learned someone used a handheld propane torch to burn the items.

State fire marshal officials said a nearby construction company employee said the Aberdeen man arrested Friday was trespassing on the property.

Then, they started looking into several other fires in the immediate area that were possibly connected in May and June as well as other fires within the woods near the 3500 block of Churchville Road and on the private property in the 800 block of Carsins Run Road as recently as last month.

State fire marshals said they were able to link the Aberdeen man to the June 20 fire. He is charged with maliciously or negligently setting fire to woods and brush, second-degree malicious burning and trespassing on posted property, according to the fire marshal release.

Authorities are still investigating the other fires. Anyone with information is asked to contact 410-386-3050.
