Read Time:1 Minute, 20 Second

The National Weather Service issued a fire weather warning advisory for the Baltimore area for Tuesday, the first day of spring.

Although Tuesday will have sunny skies and a temperature high near 54 degrees, there will be gusty winds with low humidity, causing an elevated risk of wildfire spreads.

Wind gusts could reach 22 mph, and humidity levels are forecast to be around 20% to 25% Tuesday afternoon, but some areas could see below 20% for a couple of hours.

The advisory will be effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents and visitors are asked to use caution if handling open flames or equipment that creates sparks. They are also asked to store cigarette butts, matches and other flammable items in appropriate containers. Vehicles should stay off of dry grass and obey local burn bans, as dry grasses, dead leaves and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly.

Tuesday night’s temperatures will drop to a low around 37 with a gentle southwest wind between 6 and 9 mph.

Wednesday will have a high around 62 with wind gusts up to 26 mph. Night will continue to be breezy with gusts up to 24 while temperatures fall to a low of 30.

Thursday will continue to have wind in the 20s and a temperature high in the 50s. At night, winds are expected to be calm with a low temperature around 28.

Going into the weekend, the weather service forecast Friday to have a high in the 50s, a low of 40 and a 60% chance of rain.
