[Baltimore Sun] Quickest fix for bridge collapse: Launch ferry service. | READER COMMENTARY

Read Time:45 Second

In light of the tragic accident in Baltimore and the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, what is the possibility that speedy action could be taken to provide ferry service across the Potomac River near the bridge site from one shore to another? (“How long will it take to rebuild the Key Bridge following its collapse?” March 27).

This option would relieve congestion for the impending traffic increase on the two tunnels, the through-city routes and the west side of the Baltimore Beltway. It would provide access for commuters, for truck traffic and most especially provide a safe route for hazardous materials.

Philadelphia showed what quick, creative thinking can accomplish when the fire and bridge disaster happened on Interstate 95 in that city. Baltimore can respond similarly.
