[Baltimore Sun] Baltimore’s construction workers take pride in their labors | READER COMMENTARY

Read Time:39 Second

Dan Rodricks recently wrote a wonderful column, “Dan Rodricks: These ironworkers helped build the Francis Scott Key Bridge, now a lost legacy,” (March 29). He quoted some of the Ironworkers Local 16 who helped build the bridge, young when they worked on the project and retired now.

It must be bittersweet to see such a major project not outlive them. My husband, retired from Construction Laborers’ Local Union 516 (now 710), cannot drive around Baltimore without pointing out projects that he worked on, including the Fort McHenry Tunnel, as concrete and labor general foreman.

One thing comes out clearly with all these guys — pride in their work.
