Bippity-boppity-boo … Cinderella will be taking her turn at the ball when The Dulaney Theatre Company takes the stage for four performances of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”

The show is the annual spring musical and the all-student production is certain to enchant audiences on April 4 through April 7 at Dulaney High School.

The familiar story will be set to music with some favorite numbers like the “Stepsisters’ Lament,” “Ten Minutes Ago” and “When You are Driving Through the Moonlight.” The show will feature singing, dancing and a full-pit orchestra.

The show casts Laura Neer as Cinderella, Hayley Stewart as the Fairy Godmother and Hunter Weller as the Prince. Some other members of the cast include Ava Barnes and Lyla Walter as Cinderella’s step-sisters, Isabeth Lamont as Madame, the step-mother, with Lucy Martinez, Prudence Munyasa and Avery Mortzheim, a trio of graduating seniors appearing among the ensemble.

The performance moves beyond the actors on the stage and again, thanks to the all-student crew, “Cinderella” shines.

Stage director Sam Dua and assistant stage director Michaela Steiner provide the guidance while Jean McGregor, costumes chief, Mariam Darraj, set design chief, Brady Patterson, set chief and lead builder, Vicky Yan, sound chief and Shivani Mutreja, choreographer, all add to the ambiance and overall production.

Most of these students have been involved with the Dulaney Theatre Company throughout their time in high school, bringing their talents to fall plays and the spring musicals. Many take on a variety of roles, both on and off the stage, and gain experience by being a part of the crew and ensemble before heading onto larger roles.

Laura Neer as Cinderella, Hayley Stewart as the Fairy Godmother take a break during rehearsal of Dulaney Theatre Company’s production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

Dulaney sponsors a chapter of the International Thespian Society, an honor society for theatre arts students who contribute to their thespian troupe. Student leadership of this honor society includes Laura Neer, president, Vicky Yan, vice-president, and Lucy Martinez, secretary.

As a special treat for young theater goers, the Dulaney Theatre Company is hosting a Cinderella Tea Party and inviting all little prince and princesses to join the fun.

Held in the school’s satellite cafeteria prior to the afternoon matinee performance, the tea will feature the cast, in character, ready to meet and greet any youngsters. This will begin at 11:30 a.m. on April 6 before the 1 p.m. performance.

Other performances include April 4, 5 and 6 at 7p.m. and all shows will be held in the Dulaney High School auditorium. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased in advance through Dulaney’s Ticket Spicket or at the door.
