[Baltimore Sun] Pro-Palestinian protesters should be heard | READER COMMENTARY

Read Time:49 Second

In his recent commentary, Ted Deutch of the American Jewish Committee, “AJC: Campus demonstrations seek to intimidate, not debate” (April 30), could not be further from the truth when he accuses student protesters of “supporting Hamas terror tactics.” In fact, the opposite is true. As stated in a recent New York Times op-ed, “Student protest is an essential part of education.”

Deutch falsely accuses the protesters of threatening “campus safety,” ignoring the fact that the students are demonstrating the courage of their convictions against our government continuing to supply the weapons — bombs, missiles, fighter jets — that Israel uses to massacre tens of thousands of Palestinian women and children in Gaza and hundreds in the occupied West Bank.

Their demands — ending all U.S. military aid to Israel and a permanent cease-fire in Gaza — are legitimate and should be listened to.
