[Baltimore Sun] Women dies after being pinned under riding mower in drainage ravine in Fallston

A women died after being trapped under a lawn mower that fell into a seven and a half foot drainage ravine, according to Fallston Volunteer Fire officials.

At approximately 5:11 p.m. on Thursday officials say the Fallston Volunteer Fire Company and the Harford County Department of Emergency Services were dispatched to a single-family home on Willow Drive in Fallston for a lawn mower incident with traumatic injuries.

Prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, officials say people at the scene started CPR on the victim.

A Facebook post from the Fallston Volunteer Fire Company reported that when emergency personnel arrived, the person trapped under the mower in the ravine was no longer conscious or breathing.

Chief Dan McKinney of the Fallston Volunteer Fire Company confirmed that one woman had been trapped under a commercial riding mower for an unknown period of time and was in cardiac arrest.

Officials say Maryland State Police Aviation Command was alerted but Fallston Volunteer Fire later decided they did not need the agency’s services and the flight was called off.

Officials reported that at approximately 5:18 p.m. additional resources from the Fallston Volunteer Fire Company arrived and the woman was extracted from the ravine.  After advanced life support care was started, officials say the woman was pronounced dead at 5:39 p.m.

According to officials, the cause of the incident is being investigation by Maryland Occupational Safety and Health investigators as well as the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the identity and age of the woman has not been released.
