Richard Webb’s recent letter to the editor about early voting offers an argument that is specious at best (“A lesson in the drawbacks of early voting,” May 2).
I am an 84-year-old who just dropped his ballot off at my local drop box in Salisbury. The convenience was a blessing since I have some mobility problems that would make it difficult to stand in a line for any length of time. It sounds as if the letter writer would prefer that we seniors not be given the options that allow us to vote, which I have done every election since 1962.
I believe in a democracy where more people vote, especially those educated enough to understand what they are doing. Trump followers are afraid of allowing more to vote and thus continue the charade of fraud in mail-in voting.
I do think the letter writer was correct in urging more days of open polls for in-person voting — let’s say a week from the previous Sunday to the Tuesday of election day for a total of 10 days. Or change our elections to Saturday and avoid the schools being closed on Election Day. We need more opportunities for more people to participate,
