[Baltimore Sun] Trump’s no populist, he’s just a racist | READER COMMENTARY

Read Time:1 Minute, 4 Second

I find it rather shocking that in his recent commentary (“The United States is divided, but not in the way you think,” May 6), Sam Faddis concludes that Donald Trump doesn’t represent racism, but a populist movement.

What universe has the writer has been residing in over the past 10 years? Just think about some of Trump’s statements and actions: the claims of birtherism against Barack Obama, demonization of immigrants by claiming they’re poisoning the blood of our country, using racist tactics against Gov. Nikki Haley, calling Mexican immigrants criminals, asking for a complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States, highlighting crimes committed by dark-skinned people, calling those who marched alongside white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia “very fine people,” being slow to denounce support from Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke and hosting a dinner at Mar-a-Lago for white supremacist Nick Fuentes.

This is just a short list of the racist comments and actions that Trump has used to fuel his political ambitions. Unfortunately, our country is in many ways racially divided and having Trump in office again would not be helpful in narrowing the racial divide.
