[Baltimore Sun] Don’t absolve Dali’s owners of financial responsibility | READER COMMENTARY
President Joe Biden’s comment that the federal government would pay for the reconstruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, while well meaning, was very stupid (“How long will it take to rebuild the Key Bridge following its collapse?” March 27).
His comment may have cost taxpayers billions of dollars that could have, and should have, been recovered from the owner of the ship that caused the accident. By making such comments, he may have absolved the ship’s owner of financial liability for the rebuild and the loss of income that will occur as a result of the accident.
Has the president no competent advisers? Or does he simply fail to listen to them?
